New Webmaster

After nearly five years as Webmaster for the WCAG, I felt it was time to turn over the reins and give someone else a chance at volunteering their service to the Guild. The work that I've done on the website during those years has been challenging at times but for the most part very enjoyable, and in certain ways I am sure I will miss it. It is my hope that each of the WCAG members have found the site useful, informative and easy to use.
But I now leave your website in the hands of a newer member, Luke Choate. As always he can be contacted via email at webmaster@wcartguild.org
I'll look forward to seeing my fellow Guild members at our monthly meetings in the future.

How to "LIKE" the WCAG Facebook Page.

I realize that Facebook can be confusing so I wanted to make sure that everyone knew how they can "Like" the Williamson County Art Guild's page on Facebook.

Here are the steps you will need to take.
1. Log into your Facebook account.
2. Click on the link below / copy and paste link below / or type Williamson County Art Guild in the search     bar at the top of your Facebook page.

3. On the left hand side of the page is the "Like" button. Click it.
4. After you have liked the page, hover the arrow over the "like" button and a menu will pop up. Look for "show in News Feed" and click on that.

Congratulations! You are now a member of the page and will recieve any posts from the page in your personal news feed.

Big Beautiful Birds - a Photography Exhibit

Five Sun City photographers have been invited to exhibit their photographs of "Big Beautiful Birds" at the Art Space, 231 East Main Street, Round Rock, at the Round Rock Area Arts Council. The Opening Reception is open to the public. It will be on Thursday June 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 and will include snacks, music, and libations. The exhibit will run through July 1st. PBS' "Big Bird" won't be there, but some photos of the largest birds of the land and the sea will be. (No hummingbirds or songbirds., just the BIG ONES.) The photographers are Linda Green, Cheryl Cook, Doug Farrell, Jim Young, and Wes Odell.

May Framer's Gallery Report

Several members of the Williamson County Art Guild are displaying their work at the Framer's Gallery in Georgetown during the month of May.  The city's First Friday celebration drew lots of people to the town square to enjoy the great weather and the art. 

The winner of the People's Choice award goes to Alora Johns for her painting, "Snow Bird."  Congratulations Alora!

I have enjoyed my time serving as Gallery Chair for the past two years.  However, it's time to let someone else take over the position.  Linda Figg has accepted her nomination as the new chair.  Assuming she will be voted in on Tuesday night, she will be coordinating WCAG's art at the Framer's Gallery.  Any WCAG member who wishes to display at the Framer's Gallery should contact Linda in the future.  Again, I have enjoyed the position and I thank the membership for allowing me to serve as Gallery Chair.

2013 Gallery Georgetown Poster - Call for Entries

Call for Artwork Submissions

Gallery Georgetown is a city-wide, annual art gallery tour benefitting Georgetown Art Works and the Georgetown Art Center.  The goal is to raise awareness of the beautiful City of Georgetown through Georgetown’s art galleries, while fostering relationships between local art businesses and the local art community. 

The Gallery Georgetown Committee is now accepting artwork submissions from all artists interested in having their artwork featured and recognized on Gallery Georgetown 2013 promotional material.  One winning entry will be selected by the committee to be used on Gallery Georgetown promotional materials.  In addition, 100 limited edition posters featuring the winning entry will be printed and sold in conjunction with the Gallery Georgetown event.  Proceeds from the sale of the posters will be used to benefit Georgetown Art Works and the Georgetown Art Center.  The winning artist will receive a stipend of $250 and retain all rights to their original artwork.  A reception for the winning artist will also be held at the Georgetown Art Center on the night of Gallery Georgetown 2013.

Entries must be original work in any visual media including: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, computer based art, or mixed media.  Due to the nature of the artwork display format, only two-dimensional artwork will be accepted at this time.  The winning entry will be selected based upon the best representation of the following:

-The synergy of the local Georgetown art community and exhibition venues

-The vision that the local art community shares in advancing Georgetown as an art destination

-The concept that art enhances the quality of life of the community  

Submission Requirements and Information

1. Artist may submit a CD of up to 10 original works in pdf or jpeg formats.

2. A fee of $10 is required per entry at the time of artwork submission.  Payment can be made by check made payable to Georgetown Art Works and mailed to Hill Design + Gallery, 1623 Rivery Blvd. Georgetown, TX  78628.

3. The deadline for submission is Friday, May 24^th at 5pm.  No late entries will be considered.

4. The winning artist will be notified by Monday, June 3^rd by email.

5.  Artist agrees to give permission to the City of Georgetown and Georgetown Art Works for the use of their artwork on promotional materials associated with Gallery Georgetown 2013, which will include magazine ads, facebook notifications, rack cards and the Gallery Georgetown 2013 limited edition poster.  The artist’s name will always be associated with the artwork image wherever it appears.

William Geisler - May Guest Artist

For an evening our meeting and the art of William Geisler.

William Geisler's work is intriguing, striking and complex, inviting the viewer at first to take in the totality of a piece
from afar, then to discover what may be less visible within deeper layers.

His encaustic art – an ancient technique dating to 100-300 AD – employs heated beeswax blended with colored pigments, paper, wood, and found materials that come together in bold, unique, and unexpected ways. Geisler's work may include linear, hand-cut paper strips dipped in wax and applied to the work's surface, where color is achieved from images printed on the paper or built through an extensive subtractive and additive process that engages the pigment in the wax. Or it may include the use of the toner transfer method, where the combination of black or colored toner and pigment produces immense depth when fused into many layers of wax.

"I'm attracted to the abstract nature and subtleties of layering and depth that encaustic brings, as well as to the unpredictability and lack of control you're often confronted with using the hot wax medium. An idea you may have at the start isn't ever guaranteed to finish as originally conceived. Red Poppy Festival

All,
It’s that time of year and Red Poppy Festival is near.  The festival usually draws around 30,000 visitors for the weekend and Georgetown Art Works is thrilled to be a part of this wonderful and fun event.  We will have two booths at the corner of Main and 8^th Street.  One will be an informative booth about the art center and its’ programs.  The other will be a fun art center for children.

The Red Poppy Festival booths will be open Saturday, April 27^th from 10am until 6pm and Sunday, April 28^th from 11am until 5pm.  We need volunteers for 2 or 4 hour shifts each day.  There will be a board member on hand at all times to help answer questions or take money.  If you are interested or would like more information, please respond to Jan Ligameri at 512-868-3228 or janligameri@msn.com  and I will call you to answer any questions and/or confirm the day and times you prefer to volunteer.  This is a great opportunity to share what the art center will have to offer and have fun at the same time.

2013 Salon International Award!

Wow!  Still processing the events of the weekend!  I'm happy and honored to announce that Eggs and Enamel won the 2013 Salon International Merit Award in the Still Life category!  The Salon International is a project of the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art and sponsored by the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio Texas. 

  

What a wonderful surprise when it was announced at the Awards Dinner at the Greenhouse Gallery Friday night!  I'm humbled to be recognized among the amazing art displayed in this exhibit!   It was wonderful meeting Max Ginsburg (the judge) who is a delightful man and so full of knowledge about art.  I wish I'd had a recorded to capture his words and insights!  

I met many amazing artist!  If you ave a chance to visit the Greenhouse Gallery before the exhibit ends (May 3rd) you will not be disappointed!

April Framer's Gallery Report

This is the time of year when the Texas weather is perfect!  It's a great time for artists get out do a lot of plein air work.  It's also a great time to view all the works.

The following WCAG members have work displayed at the Framer's Gallery, 610 S Main Street, Georgetown, TX during the month of April: Maggie Allen, Sandi Archer, Scott Carlin, Joan L. McShane, Joan Miculka, Wes Odell, Luisa-Maria Potter, and Rebecca Rodriguez.

Their works will be on display until Wednesday, May 1st.  So be sure to go by and take a look.

As usual, there were many, many people through the gallery during the First Friday celebration.  After all the People's Choice votes were counted, one emerged as the winner.  Congratulations goes to Rebecca Rodriguez for her painting, "Spring Green."

March Framer's Gallery Report

Hello Art Enthusiasts!

I know we are all enjoying the exceptional weather we are having.  And the weather for Georgetown's First Friday celebration was just as exceptional.  Of course, with nice weather, we had lots of people come through The Framer's Gallery, located at 601 S. Main in Georgetown, TX for the First Friday event.

Big Art is Coming to Our Small Town!

The new Georgetown Art Center is expected to be complete in late May, with the grand opening of their first exhibit in June of 2013. The City of Georgetown is funding the transformation of the old fire house on Main Street into a community art center, and Georgetown Artworks will serve as the managing entity, responsible for all fundraising, volunteer staffing, planning and marketing.

Misty Adair, the Vice President of Georgetown Artworks, is excited about the new center and the niche it will fill in Georgetown and the surrounding communities. Its success, though, depends upon community involvement. “It’s important that this message is clear: the art center is for the entire community and we need the community to invest in it, either financially, or with their time or ideas, in order for it to succeed,” explains Misty.

This summer will be an exciting time at the Art Center, with exhibits from contemporary artist Benini and the innovative duo of Museum Anatomy. The center plans to offer interesting, unique art exhibits featuring established artists and quality juried shows featuring local and emerging artists.

The center is also planning their summer education calendar to include half day summer camps for children ages 6-12, as well as workshops and classes for teens and adults. In addition, they will offer free interdisciplinary programs and lectures in the gallery to compliment each exhibit

The Georgetown Art Center is currently accepting class proposals from potential artist/teachers, and resumes from local art teachers interested in working with children in the summer camps. February Framer's Gallery Report

February's First Friday was a nice, warm evening.  There were lots of people at the Framer's Gallery viewing the art of WCAG members: Maggie Allen, James Archer, Shadow Giudry, Priscilla Jones, Joan L. McShane, Wes Odell and Luisa-Maria Potter.  As the evening progressed, art viewers voted for the People's Choice Award.  At the end of the evening, Joan L. McShane's watercolor collage "Mr. Fish and Co." had the most votes.  Congratulations Joan!

The art will be on display at the Framer's Gallery, located at 601 S. Main Street in Georgetown, TX, through February 27th.  So be sure to go by and see "Mr. Fish" and the all the other art.

2013 Salon International

Hi everyone.  I 'd like to share that two of my paintings (Eggs and Enamel and Fresh Wine)  have been selected to be in the Salon International (a project of the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art) to be held at the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio Texas.  The link to view the other works selected is below.  It's an amazing exhibit that will be open to the public beginning the evening of April 13th with a champaign reception and going through May 3rd. Liliana Wilson - February Guest Artist

Howdy Everyone! Mark your calendars for the February 5th meeting. Our guest on February will be Liliana Wilson, a chilean artist, who will be talking about her work. Her work deal with intense social, political and emotional barriers which create a subtle sense of turmoil. Through her drawings and paintings, she explores the power of complex emotions implicit in the human struggle for integrity. Her images come from the subconscious - realities collide on multiple levels while beauty emanates from her subjects.

Folk for Art Folk - A Concert Fundraiser for the Art Center

Georgetown Art Works needs to raise almost $100k over the next year, in behalf of our future Art Center. The City of Georgetown is covering the cost of remodeling the building, but they are not covering the everyday expenses of running the Art Center. We are working on fun ways that you can participate and help us raise the funds, like the upcoming "Ginger Thompson" concert. Tickets are $25 and includes live music, appetizers and drinks. The are available at the Georgetown Visitor Center and online. Come out, help out and have fun! Sunday, January 27th @ 4pm. The concert is being held at the Grace Heritage Center in Georgetown.
