March Framer's Gallery Report

Hello Art Enthusiasts!

I know we are all enjoying the exceptional weather we are having.  And the weather for Georgetown's First Friday celebration was just as exceptional.  Of course, with nice weather, we had lots of people come through The Framer's Gallery, located at 601 S. Main in Georgetown, TX for the First Friday event.

The following WCAG artists are displaying thier work this month: Maggie Allan, Scott Carlin, Kay Dimitri, Joan L. McShane, Wes Odell, Floyd Riley, Rebecca Rodriguez and Luisa-Maria Potter.  The art will be on display until Wednesday, April 3rd, so be sure to go by and see it.

Our People's Choice Award this month goes to Rebecca Rodriguez for her acrylic painting, "Deep Water."  Congratulations Rebecca!

Big Art is Coming to Our Small Town!

The new Georgetown Art Center is expected to be complete in late May, with the grand opening of their first exhibit in June of 2013. The City of Georgetown is funding the transformation of the old fire house on Main Street into a community art center, and Georgetown Artworks will serve as the managing entity, responsible for all fundraising, volunteer staffing, planning and marketing.

Misty Adair, the Vice President of Georgetown Artworks, is excited about the new center and the niche it will fill in Georgetown and the surrounding communities. Its success, though, depends upon community involvement. “It’s important that this message is clear: the art center is for the entire community and we need the community to invest in it, either financially, or with their time or ideas, in order for it to succeed,” explains Misty.

This summer will be an exciting time at the Art Center, with exhibits from contemporary artist Benini and the innovative duo of Museum Anatomy. The center plans to offer interesting, unique art exhibits featuring established artists and quality juried shows featuring local and emerging artists.

The center is also planning their summer education calendar to include half day summer camps for children ages 6-12, as well as workshops and classes for teens and adults. In addition, they will offer free interdisciplinary programs and lectures in the gallery to compliment each exhibit

The Georgetown Art Center is currently accepting class proposals from potential artist/teachers, and resumes from local art teachers interested in working with children in the summer camps. I'm thrilled and Honored to announce that "It's Appealing" won BEST IN SHOW at the 2013 Imagine Exhibit!   There were 250 wonderful pieces of art juried in this show.  It was a privilege and honor to be among so many talented artist.  I'd like to express many thanks to Rae Andrews, Michael Epps and James Minor for selecting "It's Appealing" for this prestigious award!

It was VERY exciting to greet everyone at the opening exhibit tonight and a very BIG surprise when they announced the  awards!

Feature Artist Gallery Talk Feb 17, 2013



 Hello all,

 

I am a feature artist at the Open Doors Gallery in north Austin and would love for you to come see the gallery and attend the Gallery Talk given by the feature artists.

 

The "Gallery Talk"  will feature the art journeys of:

Mandy Gregory,  Connie Hartsfield and David Manning

It will be held on Sunday afternoon February 17th, from 2:00-4:00 pm at Hill Country Bible Church NW(12124 RR 620 N) Worship Center Balcony (Bldg. A) light refreshments will be served. 

 

It is a beautiful gallery with over 100 works of fine art.

This is a WIP (work in progress) I'm working on.   I love the warm colors of the jug and it's color harmony with the indian motif clothe.  I still have a bit of  finishing work to do but thought I'd share the WIP.

February Framer's Gallery Report

February's First Friday was a nice, warm evening.  There were lots of people at the Framer's Gallery viewing the art of WCAG members: Maggie Allen, James Archer, Shadow Giudry, Priscilla Jones, Joan L. McShane, Wes Odell and Luisa-Maria Potter.  As the evening progressed, art viewers voted for the People's Choice Award.  At the end of the evening, Joan L. McShane's watercolor collage "Mr. Fish and Co." had the most votes.  Congratulations Joan!

The art will be on display at the Framer's Gallery, located at 601 S. Main Street in Georgetown, TX, through February 27th.  So be sure to go by and see "Mr. Fish" and the all the other art.

2013 Salon International

Hi everyone.  I 'd like to share that two of my paintings (Eggs and Enamel and Fresh Wine)  have been selected to be in the Salon International (a project of the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art) to be held at the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio Texas.  The link to view the other works selected is below.  It's an amazing exhibit that will be open to the public beginning the evening of April 13th with a champaign reception and going through May 3rd. Liliana Wilson - February Guest Artist

Howdy Everyone! Mark your calendars for the February 5th meeting. Our guest on February will be Liliana Wilson, a chilean artist, who will be talking about her work. Her work deal with intense social, political and emotional barriers which create a subtle sense of turmoil. Through her drawings and paintings, she explores the power of complex emotions implicit in the human struggle for integrity. Her images come from the subconscious - realities collide on multiple levels while beauty emanates from her subjects.

Folk for Art Folk - A Concert Fundraiser for the Art Center

Georgetown Art Works needs to raise almost $100k over the next year, in behalf of our future Art Center. The City of Georgetown is covering the cost of remodeling the building, but they are not covering the everyday expenses of running the Art Center. We are working on fun ways that you can participate and help us raise the funds, like the upcoming "Ginger Thompson" concert. Tickets are $25 and includes live music, appetizers and drinks. The are available at the Georgetown Visitor Center and online. Come out, help out and have fun! Sunday, January 27th @ 4pm. The concert is being held at the Grace Heritage Center in Georgetown.

Currently the positions of Publicity Chairperson and Newsletter Chairperson on the WCAG Board of Directors are vacant. These positions are vital to the continued health of your art association. Please consider lending your support.

WCAG Greeting Card Contest

I would like to thank all artists who participated in our greeting card contest.  We had eleven entries and the WCAG membership attending the meeting voted on which design would best represent WCAG on an all occasion greeting card.  The winner is Lynn Kessel's "Dragonfly."  Congratulations Lynn!

November Framer's Gallery Report

Yes, the busy holidays are upon us!  But we can always squeeze in some time for art.  The following WCAG members are exhibiting their works at the Framer's Gallery (601 S. Main Street in Georgetown, TX) during the month of November:  Kay Dimitri, Gretchen Hecht (GretchenArt), Lynn Kessel, Wes Odel, Luisa-Maria Potter, Leland A. Reneau and Alexis Templeton.  Their works will be on display until December 5th, so be sure to go by and take a look.



 

The First Friday event was, as usual, a very nice evening.  The People's Choice voting was tight.  There were three works that were tied and one piece had one more vote than the other three.  Congratulations goes to Wes Odell for his photograph, "Jazz at the Star Cafe."

 

December will be "mini's month."  Not only will the size be "mini," but so will the hanging fees.  All WCAG members can hang 4 "mini's" (8"x10" or smaller) for only $10, or 2 for $5, or 1 for $2.50, etc.  If you would like to participate, please contact me, Connie Hartsfield, at charts303@yahoo.com to make a reservation.

 

2013 Red Poppy Poster Artist Contest

Laurel Daniel - November Guest Artist

Laurel Daniel is a well established and award winning plein air painter, formerly the president of the Plein Aiir Austin. Currently, she's a faculty member at the Austin Museum of Art.

Here's what Laurel has to say about ther Journey!

My lifelong love for nature inspires me to contemplate the landscape. As a plein air painter, I begin outside, working quickly to discern the shifting patterns of shadows and light. Back in studio, I try to paint with the same closely-observed spontaneity. Capturing a moment in time is an impossible task, but for me, an endlessly compelling one.

October Framer's Gallery Report

Hello Art Enthusiasts!

It's October in Georgetown, Texas and the summer heat is now just a memory.  Cooler weather and great art is what's in store at the Framer's Gallery, located at 610 S. Main St.  WCAG artists Sandy Archer, Kay Dimitri, Connie Hartsfield, Gretchen Hecht (GretchenArt), Wes Odell, Leland A. Reneau, Darrel D. Schmidtt, Charlotte Sylvest and Alexis Templeton are displaying their art in the gallery through October 31st.  The quality of the art is outstanding.  In fact, the voting for the People's Choice Award (held during Georgetown's First Friday event) was very tight.  Through most of the evening there were three art pieces that bounced around in first place. At the last call for votes point, there was a three way tie.  The final votes of the evening determined the winner. 

 

And the winner is!!!!!......   Gretchen Hecht (GretchenArt) for her "Homes and Churches in Georgetown."  Congratulations Gretchen!
